Willkommen bei der EuroVolley 2011

Joy to watch national team play

The Austrian national team finished the CEV European League 2010 in July. The president of the Austrian Volleyball Federation (OEVV) Peter Kleinmann took a look back.   “The team has made step forward and presented itself much stronger than the year before. Despite winning just two games, compared to the three victories the previous season, our opponents have used their best players this year. The 3:2-win against Greece and the 3:1-win against Turkey were great achievements. We also lost the other games against those teams by only a small margin. Only Portugal was too strong for us. One has to consider though, that our teams efforts were hampered by a gastro-intestinal disease at that time”, said Kleinmann.   “All players on the team have performed well and proven why they are on the team. Setter Oliver Binder, opposite hitter Michael laimer and outside hitter Simon Fürhbauer have played surprisingly strong. Daniel Gaven has proven to be a great Captain. It was a joy, to watch the national team play. I’m also very pleased with the conduct of the team and the staff. One could see, that good people are working with the team”, added Kleinmann.   “The European League helped us moving forward. We hope to play some friendly games against strong opponents in fall. The World Championships take place in Italy in October and we already have great offers for games before that tournament. Above all I expect much of the participation of the national team in the Middle European League”, the president remarked about the foreseeable future.

Greece defeats brave Austrians

The Austrian National Team was handed a 0:3 (23:25, 19:25, 25:27)-defeat by Greece in their last European League Game on Saturday in Glyfada. “We looked more stable today. I wanted to have a look at the younger players today and they responded by playing really well. We still make stupid mistakes in the decisive situations, because we go full force all the time. That was all expected nevertheless. We have to continue to learn, learn and learn more. I’m surprised, that we are challenging Greece, even in the away games”, said Headcoach Michael Warm after the game.
