Traditionally the drawing of lots for the CEV Volleyball Champions League is carried out on the occasion of the CEV gala at the platinum vienna UNIQA Tower. 400 guests from 35 European countries participated in the event which was be broadcasted in more than 20 countries.
Last year the logo of the European Championship, the official homepage and the first ambassadors of the event were presented. This year all eyes were on Austria’s national team: Besides the presentation of the players, the gala saw the presentation of the official Eurovolley song and its singer (Caroline Kreutzberger alias Caroline Cross, 23) as well as the official mascots. Song and mascots are the result of a competition among schools and their students. Following an online vote the two mascots will be named “Sepp and Pavel”.
The official song ("Get it on") is produced by a true master of his trade: Alexander Kahr who already worked with Austria’s singer Christina Stürmer and scored several number one hits with her. This week Kahr worked with the victorious students and Austria’s team players to record the official song. The successful result was presented tonight at the gala.
The organizers received 60 proposals for mascots. A jury of experts (CCA, Design Austria, ORF, teachers and representatives of the Austrian Volleyball Federation) finally decided on the two stars by Christina Uhl. Uhl is a student of the College of Graphic design in Vienna. Her project was supported by the teachers Giovanni Corsaro and Michael Hajek.
